Why Vegas Needs CISOs
My First Year, First-Hand Experience Last year was my first year at DEFCON, and it was very different than what I was expecting. Yes, there were a lot of people, a lot of walking, some rambunctious Goons, and even a [...]
When we think about the impact of cybersecurity attacks, it’s easy to fall into the trap of believing that data is only as valuable as the ransom a company is willing to pay to retrieve it. We’ve seen this misconception challenged by the rising number of attacks on hospitals and schools, but what often flies under the radar is the alarming 40% increase in attacks on counties and U.S. government entities that provide vital services. Just recently, Wichita, KS, made headlines after experiencing such an attack, which was particularly striking given it happened right after their grant program deadline for counties to apply for funding.
It’s crucial that we elevate the conversation about government cybersecurity because these issues are very real and affect many communities. States like Oklahoma are stepping up by offering grants aimed at improving cybersecurity practices, but if we don’t talk about it, how can we ensure that those counties who could benefit the most are aware of the resources available to them?
At Alias Cybersecurity, we’re committed to reaching out and assisting rural counties in overcoming the unique challenges they face, such as economic disparities and limited access to information and resources related to cybersecurity. We help them apply for grants, identify gaps and risks, and develop a roadmap for ongoing support.
Rural governments often go unnoticed when we discuss needs, but they play a vital role in fostering economic growth for small businesses and agriculture in our state. The residents of our rural communities deserve a secure digital economy just like anyone else. Rural living should be considered an opportunity for citizens rather than a limitation due to limited resources.
At Alias, we believe stronger cybersecurity builds stronger communities where businesses want to locate and people want to live, whether major cities or smaller communities. We’ll support you whatever your cybermaturity is and wherever you need to grow. Reach out to experience the Alias difference.
